Picasso and the Avant-Garde in Paris

Self-Portrait with Palette, Pablo Picasso, 1906

Three Musicians, Pablo Picasso, 1921

On Friday I enjoyed the new exhibit "Picasso and the Avant-Garde in Paris", showcasing Picasso's work between 1905 and 1945 and the artists he influenced. I learned about the history and development of Cubism and later Surrealism, the cultural influences, the major artists, the philosophy behind the art, and of course the contribution of Pablo Picasso. The exhibit was well designed and informative. It runs at the Philadelphia Museum of Art until April 25, 2010, so if you're in the area, make sure you get a ticket to see this beautiful exhibit.

Happy Valentine's Day: You and Me Together Could Do Anything Baby

When I hear a song I like, I tend to listen to it obsessively. My most recent favorite tune is Dave Matthews' "You and Me", which is the perfect song for Valentine's Day because it is not only a tribute to romantic love, which is lots of fun, but to enduring lasting love, which is one of the miracles of creation. Enjoy this version from the Grammys:

(when the kids are old enough we will teach them to fly... I LOVE it!)
